Issue/Introduction

  • The CD-ROM is checked and connected from the hypervisor level but the CD-ROM in the Windows Guest OS is unable to detect the mounted ISO image.
  • When inspecting the DVD/CD-ROM drive properties, the following device status is presented:

    A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing the functionality. (Code 32)

Environment

VMware vSphere 7.0.x
VMware vSphere 8.0.x

Resolution

  1. From within the guest OS of the VM, open the device manager.
  2. Select the driver device.



  3. Right-click and select Properties.
  4. Click on the Driver tab and selected "Update Driver".



  5. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software".

  6. Select "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer".



  7. Click on "Next" for the driver to be updated.

  8. The driver will be updated successfully.



  9. Confirm the warning message has disappeared and that the CD Driver can be mounted successfully.
