Issue/Introduction

  • Attempting to create a Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) Cluster in Cloud Director Container Service Extension (CSE) using the Kubernetes Container Clusters plugin in the Cloud Director (VCD) UI.
  • Missing or no kubernetes templates when attempting to Select a Kubernetes version for the cluster after opening the Create New VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Cluster workflow.
  • A shared catalog that holds the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid template OVA files has been shared to the Organization and user attempting to create a TKG cluster.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director

VMware Cloud Director Container Service Extension 4.x

Cause

CSE uses TKG templates for deployment of Kubernetes (K8s) clusters and only specific TKG Ubuntu 2004 K8s OVAs are supported.

Unsupported TKG templates will not be listed when attempting to Select a Kubernetes version for the cluster after opening the Create New VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Cluster workflow.

Resolution

Consult the Product Interoperability Matrix to determine the supported TKG versions for the CSE version.

Download the appropriate TKG Ubuntu 2004 K8s OVA from the Broadcom product downloads portal, for example for CSE 4.2.2 and TKG 2.5.0 the Ubuntu 2004 Kubernetes v1.27.8 OVA could be downloaded as per the interoperability matrix.

Upload the TKG OVAs to a Catalog in VCD and share this Catalog that holds TKG OVA files with tenants as read-only.
More details are outlined in the CSE installation documentation, Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Templates.
