Issue/Introduction

After upgrading vCenter to 8.0U2 or later, scheduled tasks fail to execute.

/var/log/vmware/vpxd/vpxd.log on the vCenter will include an entry similar to the following:

YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:ss error vpxd [Originator@6876 sub=MoScheduledTask opID=ProcessScheduledTaskFiring] NotAuthenticated Exception while running the task: Fault cause: vim.fault.NotAuthenticated

Environment

vCenter 8.0U2 or later

Cause

In vCenter versions earlier than 8.0U2, scheduled tasks were executed by an internal account.

In vCenter 8.0U2 and later, scheduled tasks are executed by the last user account to update the scheduled task.

Resolution

This is expected behaviour. To prevent scheduled task failures, recreate or update scheduled tasks with a user account that has the required permissions to execute the task at the time that the task is executed.
