Issue/Introduction

  • Error when powering on VMware Cloud Director VMs with guest customization enabled.
  • An error similar to the following is observed in the failing task:

HTTP NFC Error. Cannot deploy package from /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/tmp/<CAB_FILENAME> to '<CAB_FILENAME>'. - Could not create folder "file:///opt/vmware/vcloud-director/data/transfer/gosc". - Could not create directory "/opt/vmware/vcloud-director/data/transfer/gosc".

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.x
VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

This issue occurs when Cloud Director is unable to write to the NFS transfer share. This issue can also occur if the group and owner of the files and folders located in /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/data/transfer/ is not vcloud.

Resolution

To resolve this issue investigate the health of the NFS transfer share and ensure it is online and accessible.

The NFS server must allow read-write access to the shared location by the root system account on each server machine in your Cloud Director. Set chmod 1777 permissions on the NFS server. For additional information see Cloud Director requirements when using NFS for the transfer server storage.
