VM deployment from template gets stuck at 94% and makes no progress for an excessive period of time

Issue/Introduction
Deployment of a VM from template reaches 94% and then seems to hang.
The VM deployment may eventually complete but there is no clear reason for the delayed completion.
Environment
vCenter 8.0
Cause
This is caused by the vsm service failing to reset the credentials for the vsm service account.
In /var/log/vmware/vsm/vsm.log you may see entries such as:

Resolution
This issue is resolved in vCenter 8.0 U2b
