Issue/Introduction

• This article addresses the challenges encountered when attempting to manage policies within Aria Operations, specifically focusing on restructuring (moving) child policies

Environment

• VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

• Aria Operations has limitations regarding policy management, particularly in the areas of restructuring (moving) child policies
• The software architecture restricts the movement of child policies between different levels (Parent Policies) within the policy hierarchy

Resolution

• Currently, there is no direct method to restructure child policies within Aria Operations as desired
• To achieve the desired policy configuration, users must manually create new child policies under the desired Parent Policy and replicate the necessary settings

Additional Information

• Aria Operations does not support the direct migration or conversion of child policies to parent policies
• The underlying reason for this limitation lies in the complex logic governing policy creation, modification, and dependency management within the software
