Issue/Introduction

Some messages cannot be delivered to the internal mail server. Message audit logs on Messaging Gateway (SMG) show the following response from the destination mail server:

554 security violation, email session id: {xxxxxxxx-xx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx}

The destination mail server may show SMTP session timeouts in its own logs coresponding to the attempted delivery from Messaging Gateway.

Cause

Some intermediate network security device is intercepting the SMTP session and scanning the message content before allowing delivery to the destination mail server.

Resolution

Please work with your network security team to ensure that any intermediate network security devices are operating as expected.
