VMware vSphere ESXi

Issue/Introduction

  • When adding a network adapter to a VM, there is only the E1000 option for the Adapter type.

Environment

  • VMware vSphere ESXi

Cause

  • The virtual machine in question was deployed with the Guest OS Family set to Other Linux and the Guest OS Version set to Other Linux (64-bit).
  • To verify the Configured Guest OS on the Virtual Machine
    • Navigate to Edit Settings of the virtual machine.

    • Go to the VM Options tab.

    • Under Guest OS, review the Guest OS Family and Guest OS Version settings.

Resolution

  • Power off the VM and select a Compatible Guest OS Version for VMXNET 3 Adapter
  • Ensure that the selected Guest OS Version supports the VMXNET 3 network adapter.

NOTE: Before making any changes, verify that the operating system installed on the virtual machine is compatible with the VMXNET 3 adapter to avoid potential driver or connectivity issues.
