VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • When you deploy an OVF/OVA via vCenter Server, it is extremly slow
  • When you deploy a VM from a content library, it is the same performance issue
  • When you deploy the same OVF/OVA from ESXi host client, it behaves as expected
  • There is no network issue between vCenter and ESXis

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

OVF/OVA deployment via vCenter uses the content library advanced settings parameters. These settings can limit the number of concurrent transfers and bandwidth,

Resolution

Check "Maximum Bandwidth Consumption"  Advanced Content Library Setting configuration

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/8.0/vsphere-vm-administration/GUID-6F8F5581-37C0-4C49-9085-54708C04E47C.html

Maximum Bandwidth Consumption   : Bandwidth usage threshold across all transfers, measured in Mbps where 0 (default)  means unlimited bandwidth.

e.g : value 1 (Mbit/s) means that the transfer will be at 122 KB/s bandwidth
