Issue/Introduction

When launching a VMware Remote Console window from vCloud Director, the remote console does not connect and instead displays a black screen with the following error:

"Connection error: could not negotiate SSL"

Environment

vCloud Director 10.5.x and newer

Cause

The "Public Addresses" certificate in vCloud director does not match the certificate for the Load balancer.

Resolution

Ensure the certificate for the load balancer matches the certificate uploaded for the "Public Address" in vCloud Director.

If they do not match:
1. "Export" the SSL certificate for the load balancer from the web browser and save it locally on your desktop or other location.

2. Navigate to vCloud Director provider portal > Administration > Public Addresses page > click Edit > Select "Replace Certificate FIle" found under "1. Web Portal" > select the exported SSL certificate from the load balancer in step 1 > Save the changes.

3. Try again to launch the VMware Remote Console window.
