DX Unified Infrastructure Management (Nimsoft / UIM)

Issue/Introduction

The Nimsoft agent is changing the ownership and permissions of certain log files after restarting the service.

Specifically, the logmon and processes log files are reverting to more restrictive permissions (-rw-------) after the agent restart, even though you've set them to be more permissive (-rwxrwxrwx).

Here's a clearer explanation of the problem:

  1. Initial state: Some log files have restrictive permissions (-rw-------).
  2. You change all log file permissions to 777 (-rwxrwxrwx).
  3. After restarting the Nimsoft agent (nimbus service):
    • cdm log files maintain the 777 permissions
    • processes and logmon log files revert to restrictive permissions (-rw-------)

Environment

DX UIM 23.4 CU1

Cause

Working as designed.

Resolution

The probe intentionally creates log files with specific permissions. This restricted access is designed for internal use and security purposes.

This is working as designed.
