Issue/Introduction

This article covers what happens when the Aria Operations Load Balancer virtual IP Address ( VIP) is removed from the load balancers

  • When using a load balancer with VMware Aria Operations to manage UI sessions across all cluster nodes, The Installed custom SSL certificate will have all DNS names (and optionally, IP addresses)  in the Subject Alternative Name field of the certificate. The common name is the Load Balancer DNS name, and the subject alternative names facilitate access to the Aria Operations UI page.
  • Currently, users access the Aria Operations UI through the Load Balancer's Virtual IP Address (VIP) or the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the VIP when a load balancer is in place. However, the Aria Operations UI can also be accessed using the FQDN or IP Address of the Primary, Primary-Replica, and Data nodes.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations (formerly known as vRealize Operations) - 8.x

Resolution

  • Removing the load balancer will not affect Aria Operations. After the Load Balancer removal, ensure users connect to the Aria Operations UI using the FQDN or IP Address of the Primary, Primary-Replica, and Data nodes.
  • Regenerate the custom SSL certificate to include only the FQDN  of the Primary, Primary-Replica, and Data nodes, and install this custom certificate on the nodes.

Note :The common name is the Primary_Node_FQDN, which facilitate access to the Aria Operations UI page.

  • For more detailed information on creating certificates follow the Knowledge Base article on configuring a certificate for VMware Aria Operations
