Issue/Introduction

This article provides information on migrating  Aria Operations virtual appliance(VA)  between vCenter Server instances

Environment

VMware Aria Operations (formerly known as vRealize Operations) - 8.x

Resolution

Follow the below steps to migrate the Aria Operations Virtual appliance(VA)

Pre-requisites:

  1. Confirm that the necessary network ports /  URLs are open as specified in the Aria Operations Network Port Requirements and Cloud Proxy Firewall requirements (SaaS)at target vCenter
  2. Ensure that name resolution (using nslookup command) is functioning properly, including both forward and reverse lookups, for all Aria Operations nodes.
  3. Ensure that the NTP and IP address configuration details are available at target vCenter
  4. Perform a full backup of the Aria Operations Virtual Appliance VM.

Pre-Migration:

  1.  Access the Aria Operations Admin UI using the FQDN or IP address of the Primary, Primary-Replica, and Data nodes

  2. Click Take Offline under Cluster Status.  Enter a reason for taking the cluster offline.
Note: Wait for Cluster Status to show as Offline.

  3. Shut down the nodes in the correct shutdown sequence

Note: The Aria Operations Virtual Appliance(VA) is now ready for the migration . Choose from available migration methods to move VMs to the target vCenter server. Once the migration is complete, follow the post-migration procedures.

Post-Migration:

  1. Change the DNS & IP address of the VMware Aria Operations Virtual appliance (VA) as per the relevant Knowledge Base articles   (If DNS and IP addresses remain unchanged, proceed to Step 2)

For VMware Aria Operations 8.14 or later
    For VMware Aria Operations 8.0 - 8.12.x

Note :Continue with Step 3, as the nodes were already powered on during the IP/DNS update.

  2. Power on the Aria Operations Virtual appliance (VA) at the destination vCenter Server following the startup sequence

Note: Start each node sequentially, waiting for the blue screen to appear on the VM console before proceeding to the next node.

  3. Access the Aria Operations Admin UI using the FQDN or IP address of the Primary, Primary-Replica, and Data nodes,
  4. Configure the Network Time Protocol (NTP) Settings  ( Skip this Step if NTP configurations are unchanged and continue to Step 5 )
  5. Bring the cluster online
