Issue/Introduction

Service Engines marked Down (SE_DOWN) with reason "Avi Service Engine Failed" causing data path disruptions to virtual service traffic.

Environment

Affects Version 30.2.1

Cause

This Service Engine failure was identified to be caused by a new virtual service traffic log field that was introduced in 30.2.1.  This new field fails to populate with URIs that contain invalid UTF-8 sequences.  After Avi decodes the URI it contains extended ASCII characters that are invalid UTF-8 characters.

Example URI: /example/%e0%80%ae%e0%80%ae/%e0%80%ae%e0%80%ae/example

Log Example:

Significance: HTTP request URI is of invalid UTF-8 format

Resolution

No workarounds available.

Upgrade/Patch the system to the fix version for the permanent fix.  Please find Bug ID AV-213904 in the VMware Avi Load Balancer release notes for the fix version.
