Issue/Introduction

The below error is faced while configuring NSX on ESXi hosts that are a part of vLCM cluster with config management enabled or applying a TNP to such a cluster:

"vLCM Config Manager is enabled on this cluster. Applying Transport Node Profile is not allowed."

NSX only supports vLCM clusters with "Manage all hosts in the cluster with a single image" enabled. It does not support vLCM clusters with "Manage configuration at a cluster level" enabled at this time.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0
VMware NSX-T Data Center
VMware NSX

Cause

vLCM Config Manager functionality is not yet integrated with NSX, so applying TNP is not allowed.

Resolution

The functionality will be supported in VCF 9.0. with Unified Configuration Management.

Validate:

To validate the "Manage configuration at a cluster level" is enabled on the cluster browse to :

  • Browse to the Cluster > Configure > Desired State > Configuration (If you see the Create Configuration Tab it is not configured)

Workaround:

  1. Create a new vLCM cluster  with only image management enabled but not config management
  2. Move the hosts from the existing cluster to the newly created one.
  3. Attach the TNP to the newly created cluster in NSX.

Additional Information

The configuration(VCP) can be enabled during the cluster creation or later by following the below KB:
