SNMP OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.18 (ifAlias) does not retrieve the WAN Interface Overlay name for interfaces with private IPs.

Issue/Introduction

When querying the SNMP OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.18 (ifAlias), the WAN interface overlay name is not returned if the interface is configured with a private IP address. This behavior occurs regardless of whether the private IP is assigned statically or via DHCP.

If a WAN interface is configured with a public IP address, the interface name is correctly returned in response to the SNMP OID request.

Cause

This behavior is working as intended according to the current system design.

Resolution

If the ability to retrieve the WAN interface overlay name via SNMP OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.18 is critical for customer's business operations, an enhancement request should be submitted to the development team. 

Until this enhancement is implemented, users can expect that the WAN interface overlay name will not be returned for interfaces with private IP addresses when querying the specified SNMP OID.
