Issue/Introduction

We have ENF Archiving enabled and ENF keeps creating new versions of ENF.ARCHIVE.** datasets, but never deletes any.  We have the retention period set to 5 days.  Is it ok to delete these datasets without ENF Complaining and also shouldn't ENF be cleaning up these datasets ?

Environment

Common Services r 15.0
ENF component recording events.

Cause

The ENF Archive datasets are not physically deleted or scratched.

  • The DSNAME specification is limited to 16 characters
  • If not named, ENF will assign a default name of ENF.ARCHIVE
  • ENF will also append the Julian date and time of the archive to the DSNAME .
    • ENF.ARCHIVE.Dyyddd.Thhmm
  • The RETDPD specifies the length of time the DSNAME will be retained in the ENF MUF
    • It will be deleted from the ENF database
    • It will be retained on the system
    • Must be physically scratched or deleted

Resolution

Use standard IBM utilities to scratch or delete the physical datasets

Additional Information

Refer to the DSNAME parm described among the ENF CONTROL OPTIONS in the CCS r15.0 documentation.
