Error: The format of URL is invalid when using .local for HTTP redirect address

Issue/Introduction

When trying to save changes to an NSX Load Balancer Application Profile, the following error is seen:

Error: The format of URL <url> is invalid. (Error code: xxxxxx)

Your top level domain (TLD) is .local - your.domain.example.local

Environment

NSX 4.1

Cause

Using '.local' as a top level domain for http redirects is not supported within the NSX load balancer application profile.

Resolution

Choose a separate TLD for your redirect address. 

This RFC describes why .local should not be used for TLD.
