Issue/Introduction

  • While trying to integrate VMware Aria Operations Management Pack for ServiceNow and when you try to validate the connection, you get the following error: "connection reset by peer".

Environment

  •  Cannot connect to the service now and the curl test fails:

curl -vk https://servicenow.com is:

* Uses proxy env variable no_proxy == 'localhost, 127.0.0.1'
* Trying <ip-address>:443...
* Connected to servicenow.com (<ip_address>) port 443 (#0)
* ALPN: offers http/1.1
* TLSv1.3 (OUT), TLS handshake, Client hello (1):
* Recv failure: Connection reset by peer
* OpenSSL SSL_connect: Connection reset by peer in connection to servicenow.com: 443
* Closing connection 0
curl: (35) Recv failure: Connection reset by peer

Cause

  • The output mentioned above indicates that the node has no HTML connection to ServiceNow and a network security appliance is dropping the connection somewhere in the path.

Resolution

  • This is not a break/fix issue with the Aria Operations product. We are putting the packet on the wire to the ServiceNow endpoint. Aria Operations has no control over the path that the packet takes through the customer network and what security appliances may or may not allow it. You would need to work with your network team to track the packet through the network to see which appliance is dropping the connection and fix it.
