Issue/Introduction

1. Validation of SMTP configuration fails with the below error :

2. On horizon.log, we see the below error message :

2024-07-29T12:49:41,522 ERROR (Thread-10) [APL900492;<UUID>;19.13.209.8;] com.vmware.horizon.system.rest.resource.SystemConfigResource - test connection failed for the smtp configuration. Could not connect to SMTP host: <Mail-Server-FQDN>, port: 25

Environment

VMware Identity Manager 3.3.x

Cause

The failure to validate SMTP configuration is typically caused by specifying an incorrect SMTP port or Security Type.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, ensure that the correct SMTP listening port number and Security Type are used, as provided by the email service provider. Commonly used SMTP ports include:
  Port 25: Standard SMTP port
  Port 587: Supports Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption
  Port 465: Supports SMTP connections over SSL
Using the correct port and security settings will enable successful validation of the SMTP configuration.
