Clarity PPM On Premise

Issue/Introduction

Introduction:

CA PPM user interface limits to 32 characters the name of a charge code, but in the Database table there isn't such a limitation.

Question:

Is it possible to create a charge code with more than 32 characters?

Environment:

CA PPM 13.3, 14.2 and 14.3

Answer:

It is not possible to create a charge code with more than 32 characters. This is normal, and applies to most fields in the database.

It is because CA PPM support languages with double and even triple byte characters, and the space necessary to store some of these values will therefore by 3x greater than our usual expectations.  If we didn't expand the database field size, then those other languages would only get 1/3 of their permitted characters stored.

Therefore, 32 characters is the correct limit for data entry for charge code and for other attributes too.
