Issue/Introduction

When attempting a vCenter upgrade from command line you see the following error and the update does not complete.

Command> software-packages stage --iso

 [YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS,602] : Discovering updates...
[YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS,715] : Latest updates already installed on VCSA, Nothing to stage

The ISO image VMware-VCSA-all-7.0.3-22837322.iso is mounted.

Environment

vCenter Server

Cause

This issue is caused by the incorrect ISO image being used for the upgrade. The correct ISO is the FP patch ISO.

Resolution

Download this patch from the Broadcom Support Portal.

For download instructions for earlier releases, see Download Broadcom products and software.

  1. Attach the VMware-vCenter-Server-Appliance-7.0.3.01800-22837322-patch-FP.iso file to the vCenter Server CD or DVD drive.

  2. Log in to the appliance shell as a user with super administrative privileges (for example, root) and run the following commands:

    • To stage the ISO:

      software-packages stage --iso

    • To see the staged content:

      software-packages list --staged

    • To install the staged rpms:

      software-packages install --staged
