Issue/Introduction

Title: Alarm for DHCP address allocation failed
Event ID: edge.dhcp_address_allocation_failed

Alarm Description

  • Purpose: To inform users that Edge is not able to acquire an IP from DHCP server, or failed to determine the VTEP network because of missing RA route from IPv6 router if DHCPv6 is configured.
  • Impact: If none of the Edge VTEPs can get an IP from DHCP server, the Edge will be down and not able to service any traffic/service. If only part of Edge VTEPs can acquire IP from DHCP server, the Edge will be working under-utilization and may have performance impact.

Environment

VMware NSX

Resolution

Steps to Resolve
For VCF 9.0 and higher

Recommended Action:

Check if DHCP server is functioning, and if the Edge VTEP pnics has connectivity to DHCP server. In case DHCPv6 is configured, also check if the IPv6 router for the VTEP network is advertising correct routes through IPv6 router advertisement.
