Issue/Introduction

We are using JRE thick client and we are using the correct version of Open JDK, but whenever we try to launch OneClick thick client, we see the error "Fatal Initialization Error: Could not initialize Application.  The Application has not been initialized, for more information execute javaws from the command line."  When we try to launch from the command line we get the same error message.

When we enabling logging from OpenWebStart we can see the error messages from the logs.

Caused by: java.io.IOException: java.lang.NullPointerException: name can't be null

Environment

Spectrum 23.3.6

Cause

OpenWebStart was unintentionally updated to version 1.10 instead of the version 1.8 that we ship.

Resolution

OpenWebStart was unintentionally upgraded to version 1.10 which is different then the version we ship.  Please uninstall OpenWebStart and install the version that came with OneClick (in this case 1.8) and afterwards you can launch JRE successfully.

Additional Information

We recommend not to leave the OpenWebStart auto-updater enabled as this can cause compatibility problems with OneClick.

From the OpenWebStart settings please make sure the settings are checked to never.

We do occasionally update OpenWebStart with new Spectrum versions once they are fully tested and pass our QA testing.

As of Spectrum 23.3.12 release the most updated version of OpenWebStart that we use is OpenWebStart 1.8 which can be found under 3rd party software acknowledgements in our documetnation.
