Some files transferred by Bluetooth are not blocked by SEP

Issue/Introduction

Bluetooth protection for SEP 14.3 RU9 Mac Clients may fail to block file transfers as expected.

Environment

• SEP 14.3 RU9 Mac Client (or later)
• Bluetooth connectivity/hardware
• Device Control 

Cause

There can be multiple reasons. 

• Using Apple AirDrop or AirPlay can circumvent the Bluetooth connection via WiFi
• Apple Bluetooth File Exchange service has failed to log the event 
• Apple Bluetooth File Exchange service has failed to log the event 

The was reported to happen more often with small files.

Resolution

Broadcom Engineering are aware of the limitations of the API and are investigating this with Apple.
