Issue/Introduction

From SEP 14.3 RU9 Broadcom added Bluetooth devices to Device Control policies on Symantec Endpoint Security. Some devices are not blocked with these policies.

Environment

  • Symantec Endpoint Security
  • SEP 14.3 RU9 Mac Client devices
  • Application Device Control feature
  • Bluetooth hardware, especially the list below:

Cause

The following types of hardware have been allowed at a hardware level because the Bluetooth API performs badly and creates infinite re-connection and blocking requests:

  • LogiTech mice
  • HP mice
  • BoAt headphones

Resolution

Verify the policy and that the unblocked Mac Bluetooth Hardware device ID is known and confined to a specific vendor. If the device type is listed above, then no further action is necessary as the behavior is expected. Device Control cannot work on this device.

Additional Information

If you have multiple registration logs entries in the cloud console and high CPU on the Mac device with a Bluetooth device specified in a Device Control policy, please submit the Hardware and Vendor ID's to Broadcom Technical Support to evaluate if this type of device should be added to the list of problematic Bluetooth vendors.

Additional hardware ID's may be added over time if they display similar performance related issues with Apple's Bluetooth API.
