Error " Internal Server Error - Can't determine IMC guest type for unknown OS family: Other" when powering on a VM in VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

• You are not able to power on a VM in VMware Cloud Director and you receive the error below:
  
  Internal Server Error - Can't determine IMC guest type for unknown OS family: Other


• The VM guest operating systems can be macOS, FreeBSD, Solaris, or any other unsupported guest OS.
• Guest Customization is enabled on the affected VM.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.4.x

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.x

Cause

Guest customization of Mac OS, FreeBSD, and Solaris is not supported.

 

Resolution

Disable guest customization for unsupported OS VMs and then power on the VM or capture a new VM template with guest customization disabled.
