Issue/Introduction

  • The "Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance" alert continually triggers for vCenter adapter(s)
  • Clicking the Show Objects link in the alert details provides a list of Entity Status object types named PoweredOn:<vCenter_name>, PoweredOff:<vCenter_name>,Template:<vCenter_name>
  • Cancelling the alert results in the alert re-triggering on the next collection cycle

Environment

Aria Operations 8.17.1
Aria Operations 8.17.2
Aria Operations 8.18

Cause

  • Entity Status objects are internal constructs created to increase performance when grouping objects in specific states (i.e powered on/off VMs)
  • Entity Status objects are named to match the vCenter name
  • When vCenter name changes, new Entity Status objects are created with the new name
  • Entity Status objects with the previous vCenter name are not removed and enter No Data Receiving status
  • The "Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance" alert in 8.17.1 and newer triggers based on the Number of No Data Receiving Objects metric on adapter instances

Resolution

Delete Entity Status objects that are in the No Data Receiving status from the Inventory page using Inventory: List of Objects documentation

  1. Navigate to the Inventory Management page
  2. Click the Deselect All button
  3. Expand Object Statuses and click on No Data Receiving
  4. Click the Click here to apply filter button in the top right corner
  5. In the Adapter Type: field type vCenter
  6. In the Object Type: field type Entity Status
  7. Click Apply
  8. Select all objects in the result and click Delete Object
  9. Click Yes in the Confirmation dialog

The Entity Status objects with No Data Receiving status are removed from the system. Note: Allow up to 5 minutes for active alerts to self cancel.
