Issue/Introduction

Windows operating systems VMs are BSOD due to crowdstrike issue. . Modifying base vmdk instead of snapshot vmdk if vmdk has snapshots will cause Microsoft Windows guest OS to show restore screen.

Environment

VM running Microsoft Windows.

Resolution

Mount snapshot vmdk file (not base vmdk) to the other VM to modify the file per https://www.crowdstrike.com/blog/statement-on-falcon-content-update-for-windows-hosts/.

If base vmdk modified and had snapshots, this will require restore of the vmdk from backup.
