OC Metrics Viewer not generating graphs for servers monitored by vmware probe and other probes.

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to DX UIM 23.4.1 when trying to create a Metrics view in the Operator console, OC Metrics Viewer is not generating graphs/chafts for servers monitored by the vmware probe and some other probes.

This issue occurred after upgrading to DX UM 23.4.1.

Metrics are being collected, and the standard "golden metrics" like cpu/memory are displayed on the main device page. 

But when creating a new metric view, OC (Operator Console) does not display any graph/chart.

The OC renders an empty result/chart, for example:

 

Environment

• Upgraded to DX UIM 23.4 CU1

Cause

•  Any special characters in the CI name are causing this, for example, a space displays as a %.

  • This is evidenced by opening the browser developer tools (via F12) when selecting the metrics, e.g., System->Aggregate CPU etc, and clicking on the dev tools Network tab, Create the view and it renders empty, then inspect the CI name (ciNames).

• Encoding: Special characters, even a space, in CI (Configuration Item) names are causing the issue.

Resolution

 

This is due to encoding. 

The issue was analyzed and confirmed, and it will be fixed in DX UIM 23.4 CU2 which is currently scheduled to be released by mid-August 2024.
