Issue/Introduction

IBM has recently announced plans to end PL/I or PL/1 support, which may raise concerns about CA 2E.

Resolution

Broadcom is committed to maintain and support CA 2E for the foreseeable future. Any change in a product’s direction will be announced via Broadcom’s official support notifications, rather than from other sources.

Regarding ownership change:
During the six years since Broadcom acquired CA Technologies (including CA 2E), Broadcom has continued to support CA 2E as usual. That change in ownership has had no impact on CA 2E’s long term viability.

Regarding IBM's recently announced plans to end PL/I Compiler support:
There is no direct impact to CA 2E customers with IBM's recently announced plans to end PL/I Compiler support. Your CA 2E development and production environment requires PL/I Runtime only and does not require the PL/I Compiler.

If you have any questions, please contact CA 2E Broadcom Support at Broadcom Support Online (Broadcom Support web site), your local Broadcom Account Manager, Customer Success Manager or Broadcom Customer Care online at Broadcom Customer care web site where you can submit an online request using the Customer Care web form: Customer Care web form. You can also call Broadcom Customer Care at +1-800-225-5224 in North America or see contact numbers for the local number in your country.

Regarding the PL/I compiler running on future releases of IBMi

We have reached out to IBM support regarding, whether the PL/I compiler will continue to work on future releases of IBMi, as and when they are released. To this, IBM Support has responded that the compiler should still work on future releases of IBMi.

In addition, there is also an option to compile PL/I objects that need change, on IBMi 7.5 (where the compiler is working successfully currently) and port it to IBMi 7.6, where it can be restored using the RSTLIB command with TGTRLS parameter set to V7R5M0.
