Cannot delete VMFS datastore created on 8th partition of boot LUN from local storage

Issue/Introduction

• Unable to delete Local Datastore
• Deleting 'Datastore'_name  from host GUI and vCenter GUI reports 'An error occurred during host configuration'.
• While trying to delete a partition on a 4KN SWE disk the operation fails with the error message "Read-only file system during write on /dev/disks/<device name>" and the vmkernel.log has the entry "in-use partition <part num>, modification is not supported".

Environment

• VMWare Esxi 7.0.x
• Local Datastore built on 4k HDD device with format 4KN SWE ( 4K Native Format with Software Emulation).

 

Cause

There is a known issue in calculating the GPT Entries with 4KN SWE devices and causing this issue.

 

Resolution

Engineering Team is  actively working on the issue and currently there is no resolution. The fix should be available in 8.0 P4 and later version.
