Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

vSphere HA cannot be configured

  • /var/log/vmware/vpxd/vpxd.log contains the error: SetDesiredImageSpecFailed
  • /var/log/vmware/vmware-updatemgr/vum-server/vmware-vum-server.log contains the error: Unrecognized Hardware Support Manager in Software Spec

 

 

Environment

vCenter Server 7.x

vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

A 3rd party plugin registration is corrupted

Resolution

To workaround the issue:

  1. Unregister the plugin following vendor documentation
  2. Register the plugin following vendor documentation
  3. Turn on vSphere HA
  4. Reconfigure HA
