Setup of Agents with multiple java instances on the same machine

Issue/Introduction

On one machine, want to install a 5 tomcat instances running all at the same time And with the same group of jar apps (microservices) at the same time.

Questions: 

How many agents are needed to install to monitor all these instances?

• • 5 agents?
  • One for each instance?
  • One for all machine?

Resolution

Have one agent for each instance.

Don't forget the agent naming aspect

Java Agent Naming
If you run multiple instances of the same application, DX Application Performance Management attempts to resolve identical agent names, including custom metric agents. DX Application Performance Management appends the agent name with a character and a random number. We recommend, however, that you tell DX Application Performance Management how to resolve the naming.
