Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrading vCenter Server to version 7.0.3 or later, users may observe a VMware vAPI Endpoint Service Health Alarm in the vSphere dashboard. This alarm appears without any apparent impact on system functionality or performance.
  • In var/log/vmware/vapi/endpoint/endpoint.log, you may see ilnes similar tO:

<timestamp>| INFO  | state-manager1            | StatusInfoFactory              | HEALTH YELLOW Failed to register with SCA.

Environment

vCenter Server 7.0.3 or later

Cause

This issue is typically a transient alarm that may occur during or immediately after the vCenter Server upgrade process. It is likely triggered by services restarting or reconfiguring during the upgrade and does not indicate a persistent problem.

Resolution

1. Monitor your vSphere environment for 24-48 hours after the upgrade.
2. If the alarm persists:
   a. Reset the alarm to green status in the vSphere dashboard.
   b. Wait for 5-10 minutes.
   c. Check if the alarm reappears.
3. If the alarm does not reappear after resetting:
   a. Continue monitoring for any recurrence over the next 24-48 hours.
   b. If no recurrence is observed, no further action is necessary.
4. If the alarm reappears after resetting:
   a. Collect a new set of vCenter Server logs immediately.
   b. Contact VMware Technical Support for further assistance.
5. As a best practice, verify that all vCenter services are running correctly post-upgrade:
   a. Log into the vCenter Server Appliance Management Interface (VAMI).
   b. Navigate to the "Services" section.
   c. Ensure all services are in a "Running" state.

Additional Information

While similar in appearance, this issue is different from the problem described in KB article VMware vAPI Endpoint Service Health Alarm due to duplicate service registrations after upgrading vCenter to 7.0 The transient nature of this alarm typically does not require the steps outlined in that KB article.
