Issue/Introduction

We have created a user with view-only privileges and assigned some pools to their view. The intention is to restrict the user's access to ONLY the alarms on these pools.

However, this is not happening as expected. When we tried assigning the parent folder of these pools, the alarms were shown, but this approach is not ideal because it includes all alarms, not just the ones for the specified pools.

Environment

DX NetOps Performance Management All releases

Cause

Reasoning:

  • Alarms Creation: Alarms for all components, except ports, are typically created at the device level. Spectrum does not have the concept of specific component types like QOS/IPLSA/Pool components.
  • Access Limitation: Although you can provide users access to Data Aggregator (DA) related events, it is not possible to restrict access to alarms for specific components only. Users will have access to all alarms associated with the device.

Resolution

  1. Unchecking the "Include Children" Box:

    • Action: Uncheck the "Include Children" box within a group.
    • Add: Device + (subrule) pool components to the group.
    • Result: You will see only device-level events/alarms and pool item events/alarms.
  2. Checking the "Include Children" Box:

    • Action: Check the "Include Children" box within a group.
    • Add: Device + (subrule) pool components to the group.
    • Result: You will see device-level events/alarms, pool item events/alarms, and events/alarms for any other component types associated with the device.

Summary:

To manage visibility of events and alarms:

  • Uncheck "Include Children" to limit to device and pool item alarms.
  • Check "Include Children" to include device and all related component alarms.

Additional Information

Notes:

  • Users will have access to all device-related alarms, not just specific components.
  • This is due to the design limitations of DX NetOps Spectrum & DX NetOps Performance Management
