Issue/Introduction

Is it possible to set up hub tunnels to connect hubs in a Microsoft Azure environment?

If so, are there any issues to be aware of?

Environment

DX UIM hub - any version

Microsoft Azure platform - any Operating system

Resolution

DX UIM hubs have not been developed or QA'd in an Azure environment and are not considered certified for such environments.

We have seen some issues with SSL tunnels in Azure specifically that are related to the way Azure handles outbound traffic and TCP idle timeouts.  It may not be possible to have a fully stable tunnel in Azure and it is likely that you will experience communication errors and delays in transmission of QoS and alarms as the tunnels may disconnect and reconnect frequently.

Additional Information

Some customers have reported limited success working around the Azure stablity issues by adjusting some timeouts but we cannot guarantee that it will work in all circumstances, and these customers report that the tunnels still disconnect fairly frequently even with these adjustments.  More information can be found here.

An Idea has also been posted to work on making UIM tunnels compatible with Azure which can be upvoted here.
