Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Unable to display the VM to VM path for the VLAN segments in the Aria Operations for Networks.

When querying for path between two VMs from VM path topology, it shows the below error, Unable to determine path: No router interface found for Vnic as shown in the screenshot below.

Environment

VMware vRealize Network Insight 6.9.0
Aria Operations for Networks 6.10
Aria Operations for Networks 6.11
Aria Operations for Networks 6.12
Aria Operations for Networks 6.12.1
Aria Operations for Networks 6.13.0

Cause

  • Use the below query to display the router interface shows no results in Aria Operations for Networks.

router interface where ip address = x.x.x.x"

In the above search query, x.x.x.x is the gateway address of the source and destination VMs.

  • The interface of the virtual machine's gateway has not been learned in the Aria Operations for Networks to construct the VM to VM topology for the VLAN segments.

Resolution

  • The gateways of the virtual machines in the VLAN segments will be configured on the physical switches/routers.

  • To display the VM to VM path topology between the VMs in the VLAN segments, all the required physical switches and routers should be added as data sources in the VMware Aria Operations for the Networks.

Additional Information

  • All the required physical devices have been added, but if the issue persists, the following logs can be reviewed for further insights.
  • The latest.log on the platform1 (clustered deployment)

The log path on the platform: cd /home/ubuntu/logs/restapilayer
  • The latest.log on the collector.

The log path on the collector: cd /home/ubuntu/logs/collector
