Issue/Introduction

This article provides guidance on finding and downloading legacy versions of vRealize Log Insight required for upgrading to a supported release.

Example Use Case:
If you need to upgrade from vRealize Log Insight 4.8 to Aria Operations for Logs 8.1 or later, the upgrade path requires the 8.1 upgrade PAK file. However, PAK file versions prior to 8.6 may not be available for download on the Broadcom Support Portal.

Note: If you are restoring the environment and upgrading to a supported version from 4.8, consider redeploying the latest version while retaining the network configuration.

VMware vRealize Loginsight 4.8

VMware vRealize Loginsight 8.1 and later

Resolution

Download the required PAK file for upgrading VMware vRealize Log Insight 4.8.0, you can check the following available versions: 8.1.1, 8.2.0, and 8.4.1.

Note: This HF is intended to provide upgrade binaries for 8.1.1, 8.2.0, and 8.4.1 to enable an upgrade from legacy version 4.8 to the supported 8.x version.

Important Considerations Before Upgrading:

• Backup: Ensure you have a full backup of your vRealize Log Insight environment before proceeding with the upgrade.
• Compatibility: Verify that each intermediate version is compatible with your existing environment and any integrated VMware products.
• Documentation: Review the release notes and upgrade guides for each version to understand prerequisites, new features, and potential issues.
• Testing: If possible, perform the upgrade in a test environment to identify and resolve any issues before applying changes to production.

Before starting the upgrade, ensure you are logged into the VMware Aria Operations for Logs web user interface with Edit Admin permissions. The URL format is https://log-insight-host, where log-insight-host is the IP address or hostname of the primary node in the virtual cluster.

Take note of any nodes currently in maintenance mode. Before upgrading, ensure all nodes are out of maintenance mode. After the upgrade is complete, you can transition them from Connected back to Maintenance mode if necessary.

 

Upgrade Procedure:

1. Under Management, click Cluster.
2. Click 'Upgrade Cluster' to upload the pak file.
3. Accept the new EULA to complete the upgrade procedure.

 

What to do next

• • After the primary node upgrade process is complete, you can view the remaining upgrade process, which is automatic.
  • Check for the email sent to the Admin to confirm the upgrade completed successfully.
  • Remove the snapshots from the VMware Aria Operations for Logs appliance(s) within ~72 hours after a successful upgrade to avoid performance issues
