Issue/Introduction
When creating an Oracle Linux 9 virtual machine on vSphere 7.0.x, you experience these symptom:
- The Oracle 9 guest operating system (OS) option is not available for selection during the virtual machine creation process.
- This affects VMs on vCenter Server 7.0.x or since vSphere ESXi 7.0.3q if the VM creation is performed from Host Client.
Environment
vCenter Server 7.x.
vSphere ESXi 7.0 U3q and higher versions.
Resolution
This is a known issue affecting VMware vSphere 7.0.x. Currently, there is no resolution.
Workaround:
To work around this issue:
- vCenter Server 7.0.x (vSphere Client).
- Select "Oracle Linux 8" as Guest OS.
- vSphere ESXi 7.0.x U3q or higher versions (ESXi Host Client).
- Select "Oracle Linux 8" as Guest OS.
- vSphere ESXi 7.0.x lower than 7.0.3q (ESXi Host Client)
- Select "Oracle Linux 9" as Guest OS, as these are not impacted.
