IPv6 neighbor discovery messages dropped causing ipv6 VS access failures

Issue/Introduction

IPv6 Neighbor Discovery packets or Multicast Packets with destination MAC as multicast MAC is dropped at the receiver VNIC.

Environment

VMware Avi Load Balancer v22.1.4+

Cause

- Post v22.1.4, if the field ip6_autocfg_enabled is set to false in the cloud config, the SE can no longer receive multicast frames.

Resolution

- Please enable the ip6_autocfg_enabled field in the cloud configuration.
- There is a checkbox in the UI for the same:

 

Additional Information

Note:

- Enabling this feature will also enable the V6 DHCP and SLAAC configuration.
- If DHCPv6 or Router Advertisements (RAs) are present on the link the SE data vnics may acquire new ip addresses, otherwise there is no other side affects.
