Tanzu Platform and Tanzu Platform Self-Managed both have requirements in the license that require usage data to be reported. This article describes how to do this.
This article applies to customers running Tanzu Platform or Tanzu Platform Self-Managed components which allow usage data to be shared with Broadcom. Here are the components which this article applies to:
If you are using Elastic Application Runtime and/or using Tanzu Data Services on Elastic Application Runtime, there are two options for providing usage data.
Usage data can be automatically sent using Telemetry for VMware Tanzu Platform tile with the documentation provided here. To satisfy the requirement of providing usage data, only "Operational Data" needs to be shared with Broadcom.
If using the Telemetry Tile is not feasible due to infrastructure or logistical issues, the Telemetry CLI can be used following the documentation here. The Telemetry CLI can be used to collect the operational data from each foundation each month. To satisfy the requirement of providing usage data, the commands used to collect only operational data are required when collecting data. The CLI can be run from any location which has access to the Usage Service running on the foundation. The resulting .tar file can be copied to a location which has access to the internet to execute the send command.
