Virtual Machine boot fails on Nutanix Cluster

Issue/Introduction

• After VM import, clone, or creation,  VM doesn't boot and show "2048" game instead.
  Boot device not found. Please install an operating system, or play 2048

• More frequently, it can happen with VMs that have multiple disks attached in Nutanix ran environment with CVM
• Environment prepped for upgrade but might run into booting issues or upgrade failure due to the CVM VMs

Environment

• vSphere ESXi  7.x

Cause

If the boot order is not  changed from BIOS to UEFI, CVM VMs used by Nutanix  will fail to upgrade the host

 

Resolution

• Engage Nutanix to assist with the change of the boot order
