Issue/Introduction

When using a vSAN storage policy that does not meet Minimum host requirement for the Failure to tolerate selected.  But has Forced provisioning enabled and the objects show up under the vSAN Health Service - Data Health – vSAN Object Health as Reduced availability with no rebuild.

Environment

VMware vSAN

Resolution

When using the Forced provisioning Set to yes, the object is provisioned even if the Primary level of failures to tolerate, Number of disk stripes per object, and Flash read cache reservation policies specified in the storage policy cannot be satisfied by the datastore.

This setting does not make the object compliant with the policy it will just allow the object to be provisioned when the current status of the cluster can not meet the Storage policy requirements.  Such as in bootstrapping scenarios and during an outage when standard provisioning is no longer possible.

To correct this issue you will need to change the policy to meet the current cluster configuration or add hosts to the cluster to meet the storage policy requirements.

Please review the following chart on the Minimum Hosts Requirement for the FTT chosen.
