Issue/Introduction

Suddenly an excessive CPU usage in the CCS CCILGR started task was reported on one LPAR of the production SYSPLEX. Normally the CPU usage of the CCS CCILGR started task is about 25% - 30%.

In the CCS CCILGR started task output there was not any message or reference.

Resolution

The CCS CCILGR started task uses a VSAM KSDS, which over time and data volume can fragment. This fragmentation can cause high I/O rates, poor performance and high CPU usage. It is recommended that the CCS CCILGR started task is recycled on a regular basis to drive its internal reorg process.

This reorg will clean up this fragmentation and keep the CCS CCILGR started task executing efficiently. A simple STOP (P command) of the CCS CCILGR started task will result in its termination and automatic restart by CCI under the ENF address space. Upon restart the reorg process should occur.
