HCX bulk migration/RAV stuck at 0% Base sync for one VM

Issue/Introduction

• HCX bulk migration/RAV does not progress for one particular VM
• Base sync stays at 0%
• No error is displayed on UI
• On the ESXi where the VM resides you see this message on the vmkernel log:

2024-06-20T12:42:36.017Z cpu24:311746948)WARNING: Hbr: 4813: Failed to establish connection to [x.x.x.x]:31031(groupID=VRID-c4e4d462-51ba-4d9d-a860-4466e3e306fa): Corrupt response from replication server

Environment

• ESXi version 8.0 or earlier
• The affected VM has more than 64 disks attached

Cause

• vSphere Replication max disks per VM is 64 if vSphere ESXi version is 8.0 or earlier.

Resolution

• Upgrade ESXi to version 8.0 U1 or higher

or

• Reduce the number of disks attached to the VM
