Issue/Introduction

Note: This procedure is for Aria Operations for Logs 8.12 and below only.

This process can be used in cases where the networking configuration is lost after a full root partition event.

After clearing the root partition and rebooting the node/nodes, a red banner in the VM console will state 'No networking detected'.

This process can also be used to update network settings like DNS and Gateway

Environment

Operations for Logs 8.12 and below (formerly known as vRealize log Insight)

Cause

If the root partition reaches 100% utilization, the networking configuration can be lost.

Resolution

To update the networking details while there is no networking detected;

  • Access the VM console in vSphere and login as root.
  • Run the following command:

    /opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_config_net

  • A menu will be presented as seen below;

  • Start by changing the IP address, option 6, followed by the Gateway, option 2.
  • Next change Hostname, option 3 and DNS, option 4.
  • Confirm changes by checking the current configuration, option 0.

To update DNS or Default Gateway while networking is available you can use the same command to access this menu over an SSH session.

Additional Information

This process will not work with Aria Operations for Logs 8.14 and later as this version introduced a new OS, Photon 4.

Photon 4 uses the vApp settings from vSphere to configure its networking.
