Issue/Introduction

Unable to create a custom vCenter Server Role using PowerCLI with description field.

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server 7.x
  • VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

 There is no public way to set the description of a role using PowerCLI / API.

Resolution

Broadcom Engineering is working on creating a brand new API that will allow this in a future releases.

Workaround :

Manually create roles from the vCenter UI.
