Error: "Insufficient capacity on each physical CPU" appears when powering on VM in Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

  • Cannot start / power on VM in Cloud Director (VCD)
  • When trying to power on a VM from Cloud Director (VCD) similar errors is seen on the failed task:

 - The operation could not be performed, because there are insufficient resources.
 - Insufficient capacity on each physical CPU.
 - PlacementException NO_HUBS_AVAILABLE_FOR_PLACEMENT

  • The VM was imported as a vApp Template from an OVF from another vCenter

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.1.1

Cause

The issue occurs at vSphere level because the CPU values set on the virtual machine exceeds the physical CPU core capacity for the available ESXi hosts..

 

Resolution

To resolve the issue to modify the amount of CPU setting on the VM in Cloud Director.
