4040 abend in IDMS program or database utility

Issue/Introduction

A program or utility accessing an IDMS database is abending with a U4040 abend code.

Environment

Release: All supported releases.

Cause

U4040 is not an IDMS abend code.

The only known cause of such an abend in an IDMS environment is that the involved database is using INFOPAK compression routines from third-party provider INFOTEL as database procedures and the abend is coming from INFOPAK code. Most likely it is a licensing problem - invalid keys or the product is not licensed for the CPU on which it is running.
